The flower above is a hibiscus. I purchased this little flower at Lowe’s last week for a couple of bucks in the mark down section. The flowers located on these shelves are on sale because they are not in the best of shape. But it is one of my favorite gardening things I like to do. Take a sickly little plant and bring it fully alive again!
As you can see she is thriving. Her beautiful, red blossom is almost as big as her green, leafy base! I wonder at her determination to survive and grow. Give her a second chance with some nice soil in a sunny spot, add a few cups of water, and she decided she could thrive.
I think of the times in my life where perhaps I wanted to give up a little too soon. You know that feeling, telling yourself it can’t be done and just let it be, or maybe don’t even try at all. We are so much what we think we are. So then I wonder. Why not think we are more than we can be? Why not reach a little higher in all areas of our life, with a relaxed confidence and a feeling of ease, and not one of added stress. Especially in the areas that bring us joy, like the flowering hibiscus who looks so vibrant and happy!
I saw my neighbor Mike on the road this morning while Reddogg and I were out walking on my prayer walk. He lives down the road and stopped his truck to chat and say hello. Mike had his grandson, Jed, in the backseat.
“This is Joan,” Mike said, turning around in his front seat to speak to Jed. Then he looked at me.
“This is Jed, my grandson.”
“Hi, Jed,” I replied, gazing through the front window and spotting a young boy, probably about five or six years young watching me from the back seat.
“Hi, Joan,” Jed said, and smiled at me.
“We’re going fishing,” Mike informed me.
“That’s great,” I said. “What bait you using?”
“Night Crawlers and Wax Worms,” Jed said quickly. “Fishin’ is so fun!”
“Think you’ll catch some fish, Jed?”
“I think I can catch a bunch!”
And out of the mouth of babes. His confidence was so attractive, so evident, and Jed knew without a doubt that catching a fish was going to be part of his fun day.
Most days it’s all around us, this confidence, positivity, and building a happy day. We just have to look for it, listen for it, and most importantly expect it in our lives.
c Love, Joan

Love this post, Joan!! Your early morning texts today started my day and the start to my vacation in a very positive way! Thank you for your posts and most of all thank you for being YOU!! 💙💙💙
Hey beautiful Lady! Enjoy that well deserved vacation and sending you love!
This is such a basic principle, thinking we can first, rather than we can’t. It is a stretch to understand why it is not the first thing we think of. I was pondering this same type of human characteristic the other day when I saw someone I don’t know from adam and began looking right away for things we have in common as people, rather than what was different. What causes us to tend to notice our differences more prominently and generally first, than what we have in common? — Hmmm . . . It occurs to me it is all part of what I am here to learn. I am aiming to stop resisting the lesson.
So much wisdom in your reply beautiful Lady! Thank so much and sending you love!
Great story. Uplifting & a reminder to think greater than we feel.
I totally agree beautiful Lady!:O)
