You may want to look up to the skies tonight. It’s very exciting and will be worth your time! A lunar eclipse, when Mother Earth travels between the sun and the full moon, will be lining up. The moon itself has been absolutely stunning the past few nights and tonight will appear with a red glow because our dear planet Earth will be blocking the sun, producing a filtered sunlight that hits the moon’s surface. All this will be going on between 9:30 pm till around 1:30 am Eastern time. And according to Google the most dramatic time to view the lunar eclipse is around midnight tonight.

For several days now I have been reading lots of notices from different emails about the upcoming eclipse. Lots of people believe the phases of the moon affect Mother Earth and the beings that live here. Things like the time to plant seeds, the time to harvest those plantings, the low and high tides of the ocean, and a full moon causes more babies to be born than any other time of the moon’s cycle. I remember working as a nurse in a local hospital and the Mother/Baby nurses validated this as absolutely true.

Many of those emails I have received are all about the belief that the lunar eclipse is a time for reflection for all of us. It is a time to release and let go of old ways that don’t serve us. It is a time to put something down and not pick something up, and to be specific about this, to claim it out loud. And not just to say “I let it go”, but letting go of what? Perhaps it’s some type of an old obligation you have been doing for years and now is the time to ask yourself “Why am I still doing this?”. It is a time to really look at your life and see if you have been learning the same life lesson— again! Or maybe it’s all about trusting yourself and it’s time to take that next step towards something you have always wanted to create or do. And here’s the biggee… what if it’s something you need to forgive yourself for? I have learned in my own life someone can tell me they forgive me for something but until I really forgive myself for that transgression I can’t truly move forward. We all have things we need to forgive ourselves for. My dear friend Lenton, who passed twenty-one years ago, talked to me about self forgiveness. He told me once, after listening to my woes, “Joan, you’re making a mountain out of a molehill.” And he was right. So why do we do that to ourselves? Hold on to a belief about our own beautiful self that doesn’t help us grow? I have found it helpful to take a step back at times and just observe what is going on. Try not to react so much. Give myself some Grace.

So I’ll be setting two chairs out tonight in the front yard of Our Treehouse. One for my darling Man, Alan, and one for me. To watch and reflect. And let’s be honest. I may get sleepy but I can always come in and take a nap after setting the alarm to get back up a few minutes before midnight. I have that kind of freedom in my life now. Actually I probably always have. But I actively pursue the magical moments when I know I am capable of doing so. And a lunar eclipse is magical!

With Love, Joan
