I rarely watch TV. You know I love to watch my Green Bay Packers play football and I do this as often as I can catch them on regular TV. But there is one other thing that can cause me to hit that remote button, ON. The Olympics! Winter or Summer I love to watch those marvelous athletes excel at what they do. I can not tell you what season is my favorite. Sometimes I think it is the duo figure skating known as Pairs Skating, or maybe it’s the Speed Skating, but then in the summer I love to watch the swimming and diving competitions.
I admire all the athletes and all the discipline it must take to reach the level of competence to compete in the Olympics. How many hours every day for weeks that evolve into months, and then into years do they practice their sport over and over? I am sure they love their chosen sport but don’t you wonder what they give up in their lives to do what they do? I even wonder if lots of them are tutored for school because of the hours they put in for practice. And many of them travel so much to compete in other competitions.
According to Google, 93 countries participated in the 2026 Winter Olympics held in Italy. The next Summer Olympics will begin on July, 14, 2028 and will be held here in the U.S. in Los Angeles, California. Wow! Wouldn’t that be a dream come to true to attend a Summer Olympics event!
So, I just wanted to give a big shout out to all the athletes that shared their gifts and shined so bright. I know the Olympics are finished. I wish everyone could have received a gold medal. Their determination and confidence inspired me for my own life.
I think of a verse in a Dr. Seuss book, Oh! The Places You’ll Go!: “Oh, the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored. There are games to be won.”
Wise words for all of us, don’t you think?
c Love, Joan

I love this Joan, and I love the Olympics. It’s always been something my entire family watched together. I too am inspired by the human spirit to stretch the edges of greatness. And…to participate in these sports for the absolute love of ‘being in the zone’. One of my favorite lines was from Chariots of Fire was when the olympic runner was asked why the commitment to running. His reply, ‘when I run, I feel God’s pleasure’. Touche!
I hope you got to see Alysa Liu’s Gold Metal performance in the Women’s Singles. She was as perfect as anyone could be.
Thanks for sharing, dear, Joan from Joy! Thinking about the athletes and all they do for training and learning their sport – wow!
Then I think about you and many others that live your lives, learning how to encourage others and lift people up! It may not be an Olympic competition, but all the effort and dedication you put into making yourself the best YOU, is amazing! Thank you for being an inspiration and a joy to all of us readers! Oh, the places you’ll go – there is fun to be done! Bless you!!!
I am so with you Lady on Summer or Winter Olympics ☺️, ya want them ALL to win ☺️ but to know how hard they trained to get to this point 👉 makes me appreciate their hard work. Let’s celebrate their TEAM work.
