So. It’s time. My book, the journal I kept while climbing a mountain with an illness called cancer, is launching today. Can You Understand Me? A Hospice Nurse’s Own Journey with Tongue Cancer, is ready to fly. And I honestly feel like this book has become its own entity, with a life of its own, and a purpose all its own, too. I had no idea as I wrote almost daily on caringbridge.org that I would choose to publish my diary one day.
I recorded in words my thoughts and feelings pertaining to my diagnosis, treatments, my recovery, my time back to work as a nurse, and my solo trip to Italy. It was all cathartic for me, because I healed not only physically but emotionally and spiritually, too. My soul grew in leaps and bounds! And the year I took to write down my feelings related to my grief, anger, uncertainty, physical pain, and confusion, somehow turned into feelings “of strength, wisdom, power and joy” a quote from one of my favorite heroines, Myrtle Fillmore. At times I was even able to maintain my sense of humor!
I believe my book has much to offer for anyone going through some type of challenge in his or her life. I absolutely know that Mother Nature is a true healer, and if you can, get yourself outside and embrace her presence. And I can guarantee you that if you practice the habit of sincerely praying for others you yourself will feel better for it.
If you choose to purchase my book I hope it brings you comfort, and joy, and a knowing that you carry within you a strength that knows no boundaries. As I am sitting at my desk writing this, with Reddogg by my side, I am thinking of you.
