Dear Reader,
I had a vacation in Africa! I do apologize for not writing and posting while I was there. I had true intentions to do so. But everyday was packed to the brim, overflowing with events and new people and new activities. My darling Man, Alan, and I had chosen to travel to Africa because friends had decided to have their wedding back home in Kenya with their families. Alan had been graciously asked by the bride and groom to be the officiant of the wedding. We became part of the wedding party, as did Kelly and Paul, other friends who traveled to Kenya. Tuesday and Wednesday were days spent in the airport and on planes, almost twenty three hours. Once we arrived ? Well let’s just say, “Let the activities and fun begin!”.
Thursday and Friday were filled with meeting the extended family, a trip to the local tailor for fittings for our African attire to wear to the wedding, and rehearsal dinner activities. Friday was all morning getting ready for the wedding, hanging out with the family, and the afternoon exploded with the most beautiful wedding and reception. (Kudos to Alan. He did a marvelous presentation with his wedding sermon.) By late evening it was all over and I wanted to write, but lying horizontal for some sleep was more important! Saturday we headed to Kisii, Kenya, a six hour drive to the family homestead and farm. Amazing, and again so welcoming. And Sunday the four of us headed out on safari with our guide, Wallace. That became an African BIG country, with a whole new vacation vibe till late Wednesday afternoon. Thursday was a day Alan and I had marked as an official “fly by the seat of our pants day”, one of my favorite kind of days. We ended up in Karura Forest and hiked for several hours. By seven o’clock that evening we were back at the airport, another twenty-three hours of flight travel in front of us to bring us home.
So the next week or two I will post about my trip to Africa. I will include a few pictures of course. It will be a challenge to write it all down. I want you to see the people and animals as you read my stories, and feel how amazing and incredible it all was. The African people are so friendly, flashing their beautiful smiles so easily, shaking hands and giving hugs, sharing about their lives. The country is immense, different, exotic. It was all so fantastic, extraordinary, magical! It was Africa!
c Love, Joan
