I wanted to share this photo of my front yard after I mowed the grass last week. Looks pretty whooper jawed for sure! You must realize I have never had what I call an engineer mind. I really have very little understanding of such things as how a car works, I mean, the actual motor that makes it run. I have very little knowledge about a lawnmower either. So when I was mowing the yard and watching one side of the blade cut the grass shorter than the other side, well, I thought something’s wrong with the blade. (No way could it be connected to who was driving the lawn mower was not picking up on something else, right?) So there I was, grumpily thinking I’ll have to call my brother Mark and he’ll have to take the mower back to the shop because I have no trailer to haul this big machine that I just had got back from the shop and everything was supposed to be perfect and now what am I supposed to do without a lawnmower again? Whew! Wears a body out just thinking like that. The lawn mower was not under any stress that I could tell so I continued mowing, feeling crunchier with every lap I completed around the yard. It was not till I had driven it down my driveway to park it in the garage that I noticed the right back tire was flat. I couldn’t believe it. Never even felt it.

I gazed out over my yard which was looking like a man had asked for a really short crew cut and the barber had done a really bad job! Oh, how I laughed at myself! And when Reddogg and I went on a prayer walk I laughed some more. The yard was a mess! I sent the picture above to Chickie, one of the Foxy Hags, and she texted back, “OMG! The neighbors will kick you out of the hood!”. When my neighbor Mike got home he asked me if I had fun with my “artistic touch” with my yard. I was tempted to tell him that is exactly right, Joan just using her artistic talents once again. After all, I had created a smiley face when I cut the grass a few weeks ago. But I told him the truth, the tire was flat and I never knew. He just smiled and shook his head, while I laughed again.

My brother Mark came over and saw my yard. He looks at me and says, “Sis, you been drinking before you cut that grass?” We both had a good laugh over it. Then my friend Bippy came over, who is a man with the mind of an engineer, and picked up my flat tire to take it back to his shop to fix it. He couldn’t stop laughing and asked me if I was building a putt-putt golf course!

It is such a gift to laugh at oneself, really laugh. And to laugh with others over something you’ve really goofed up. I think it keeps one humble. It can make life a lot more fun, too. I hear in my mind, “Joan, you are such goofus”, but I hear it expressed with joy and laughter.

I have wondered If my neighbors as they drive past my home are wondering what in the world am I doing with such a crazy looking yard. Maybe they think it is a new form of aerating my lawn. Maybe they think it really was an artistic effort. Who knows, maybe I have started a new fad for gardeners! :O)

I love this wonderful pic and story, thanks for sharing this laugh with us as well!
And yes, I think you should proudly say this is Joan’s yard art installation #1, the beginning of a new fad! LOL
(You can tell your neighbors this is Joan’s version of crop circles!)
It’s perfect that you live out in the country, without a restrictive HOA that would come down on you for lawn mowing that doesn’t meet their regulations, so why not take full advantage of this and express your creative Muse via Ole Betsy! 😀

When I have gotten a real bad haircut, my husband will say “It will grow out!” So, keep in mind, that grass will grow, and you can make a new design next time! Keep laughing, it is good for your soul!
