I had only seen videos of other people participating in a Color Run. But that all changed this past Saturday morning as I had the opportunity to be one of those people. And I was able to practice a little spontaneity in my life, which is a good thing, and something I have been trying to increase in my life. Late Friday afternoon my minister, Rev. Vicky, called me and informed me that Kentucky Kingdom, the large amusement park here in Louisville, was having a Color Run at 8 o’clock Saturday morning. It was best to register on Friday, and plan to be at the park around 7am.
“I’ll be there,” I said.
So I pulled open my computer and registered for the event. I was happy to find out that part of my registration fee would include a donation to what I consider a wonderful program, Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization. About forty years ago, before I had my own children, I became a Big Sister through this same program. My little sister was fourteen year young Rosetta, and she and I hung out every few weeks for two or three years. That is the primary goal as a Big Sister, to spend some quality time with a child or teenager and help them feel important, feel special.
I would guess a couple of hundred people showed up Saturday morning, including our small group; Rev. Vicky, her husband Vernon, another friend Mark, and myself. All of us are members of the spiritual center I virtually attend on Sunday mornings, Louisville Center for Spiritual Living. It was great to hang out together, talking and laughing, and get some exercise!
The Color Run/Walk was a 5K, or three miles long. The weather was great, no rain, partly cloudy, and not quite as hot as a few days before. I had not been to Kentucky Kingdom for several years. The walk was mostly level and also included some of the parking lots to get our mileage in. But I was so thrilled with all the variety of colorful flowers and the Tall Beings. So many areas were just beautiful, shaded and so clean.
Of course the highlight of the walk was to be covered in colored dust; yellow, orange, and pink. A few teenage park employees were stationed about a mile apart and waited for the runners/walkers, lining up on each side of the course. Happily and with great gusto they would POUF! POUF!, puff out large amounts of dyed cornstarch powder from plastic bottles on each person as they progressed through the 5K course.
We each were gifted a white T-shirt before the event, and a 5K completion medal after the run. As you can see from the picture above our white T-shirts did not stay white for very long. I am so glad I thought to bring a towel to cover my car seat on the drive home. I am so glad I agreed to join this event. It was great fun and I felt like a kid again. I chose spontaneity! I am so glad! :O)

So, so, so fun! And such a way to embrace the creative flow of Holy Spirit expressing as spontaneous creativity. Thank you, Joan, for sharing the story of our day. – Rev. Vicky
Creativity is the word beautiful Lady! Colored us up!
Looks like so much fun! I’m so glad you did this.
Me too beautiful Girl!
How Cool! And you didn’t get to ride the roller coaster upon competition? I remember back in the day, we would ride our bicycles from Cleveland to Cedar Point for the MS Society. Was called Pedal to the Point. Glad you had a good time Joan!
Thanks sweet brother! Yes, one could stay in the park and ride the roller coaster and other rides. Thing is…I’m afraid of roller coasters now! :O)
My grandson works for that organization and was taking pictures and videos of the event! I had hoped to go but my sciatic nerve problem wouldn’t let me! I did buy a ticket since a ticket was donated to organization for everyone bought!
Glad you had fun! 😉
A young man came up and asked to take our picture! I wonder if that was your grandson! Small world beautiful Lady!
