All Here Now
A blog about a life… my life, that may be a lot like yours.
I sometimes forget
that I was created for Joy.
My mind is too busy.
My Heart is too heavy
for me to remember
that I have been
called to dance
the Sacred dance of life.
I was created to smile
To Love
To be lifted up
And to lift others up.
O’ Sacred One
Untangle my feet
from all that ensnares.
Free my soul.
That we might
Dance
and that our dancing
might be contagious.
Hafez, 14th Century poet

Meet Joan Durbin
“I am in love with life, and life is in love with me.”
My name is Joan Durbin. I am a long-time nurse gone writer. Yet being a nurse will
always be part of my signature, hence the symbol c with a line above it.
It is shorthand for the word ‘with’ in the medical field.
I love to write, so here I am with my own blog, going after my dreams. I want to
challenge myself with my own thinking, and perhaps as you follow me your
thinking will be challenged, too.
I am 67 years young and have had quite a bit of life experience. I am a survivor of
tongue cancer, and understand that life can be both incredibly beautiful
and incredibly challenging. I want to write about the people I meet,
to really see you and hear you, wherever I go.
I want to celebrate life, and see the wonder in not only the big things, but in the simple
things, too. To write about Mother Nature, the birds, and Grandmother Tree.
I want to share my thoughts on Faith, Hope, and Love. To write about some of the hard
times, and the goodness all around me. After all, it really is all here now!
So I will write, and I hope you join me in my posts. Together we will think, and laugh,
and cry. Let’s hold each other’s hands as we walk this journey. Let’s lift
each other up.
c Love, Joan
Snake!
Snake has been stalking me! I will present my case shortly and you can decide if you agree with me. But first, for those of you who read my posts you are gradually getting to know Joan. At least parts of me. I always hope that you comprehend what I write, and that I...
Anticipation!
Anticipation is one of my very favorite words. Who doesn't love knowing something simply wonderful is coming down the pike? I can think of so many examples in my life or the lives of others, anticipating simple things to the large scale grandiose! Remember as a kid...
Summer Holidays
Summer holidays are filled with family and friends and creating memories. Also the great food. I think most of us immediately think of the amazing food that is traditionally served on July 4th. Foods slow cooked on the grill, maybe that first home grown tomato, and...
Hidden Rainbows
Dear Reader, I haven't written for a few days. Like you, I have been very busy, perhaps too busy. And life moves on doesn't it? I already understand I sometimes stay busy so I don't have to process difficult thoughts related to challenging times. Afterall, if one...
Feeling like Snow White
I just have to write about the mornings after giving due justice to the night. And let me tell you, living out here in the country with Grandmother Tree, and all the different birds and animals that habitat in this area, something always interesting is going on. There...
A Night Light
This past Saturday night my darling Man, Alan, and I, drove to Bernheim Forest for a night hike that focused on fireflies. Blue Ghost fireflies, or lightning bugs, as we sometimes call them here in Kentucky. I remember as a little girl running barefoot across the damp...
Hey! Hay Tootsie Rolls Are Back!
Once again I was in the right spot at the right time on this beautiful, gorgeous, spring day in Louisville, Ky. A day of blue skies and a sweet, cool breeze. A day that had started out wonderful and would continue to be a great day to be alive. Then I saw them. I'm...
Step Up to the … Microphone?
Spring is here and one of the most odd looking wildflowers has arrived once again in Louisville, Kentucky, the Pasture Thistle. As you can see from the picture above it is pink and full of bristles. The pink blossom itself is soft to the touch. I have often seen bees...
Sending You Encouragement
Dear Reader, I attended two graduation ceremonies last week. One for my granddaughter Caroline who graduated from the eighth grade, and the other for my nephew Steven who graduated from high school. I thoroughly enjoyed both of them for several reasons. It was...
Giant Drone!
You know, sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time to learn something new. And a few days ago that is exactly what happened for me. I was on my morning prayer walk at the farm across from Our Treehouse with Reddogg by my side as usual. I came across...
